Yogurt Marinated Chicken has got to be one of the main recipes in my meal plan rotation. This marinade keeps whatever lean protein juicy and full of flavor. With just six basic ingredients, this recipe comes together quick and makes a more enjoyable meal.
I think we can all agree chicken breast can be difficult and sad to work with sometimes. Since it’s such a lean protein it tends to dry out the second its done, it doesn’t bring much to the table other than health, and I have had way too many bland recipes in my life to where I hated the idea of cooking it.
But with this yogurt marinated chicken? It changed my mind.
I have a found love for Faye 2% and 0% yogurt(not sponsored btw). And I have been putting it in a lot of places for protein and flavor. The tang that yogurt brings to the table is unmatched. And while I was looking around for more yogurt uses the idea of making a marinade popped up.
And I know to some yogurt as a marinade can be very daunting but many cultures have been using it for years.
How I Make A Marinade?
Marinades are composed of 3 to 4 basic ingredients
- An acid (vinegar, buttermilk, pickle juice, yogurt, etc.)
- A fat (oil, full fat yogurt, etc.)
- Spices for flavor
- Salt
With this recipe I used the 2% greek yogurt and a little red wine vinegar to act as my acid components.
The lactic acid in yogurt breaks down collagen and specific proteins in lean cuts of meat. Over time, this breaking down tenderizes the meat. Yogurt also adds more moisture to the whole situation. And I think that’s something that is necessary to make whatever you are cooking more enjoyable.
Overall, this recipe is easy to do ahead, packs a lot of flavor, and can even be riffed on to make a different meal in the future. Like i said a lot of cultures use yogurt for marinading cuts of meat so you can go and explore all the options to this new found tenderizer.
I hoped you enjoyed this first recipe back! On Friday I will be coming with another recipe to show you how to use this chicken you have whipped up in a yummy Greek inspired wrap or salad. Which ever treats your fancy that day.
